Bela Lugosi
Lon Chaney Jr
Sir Cedric Hardwicke.
Directed by: Erle C. Kenton
Saved by Ygor from death in a sulphur pit, the Frankenstein monster befriends a young girl and retrieves her ball from a roof. Villagers, alarmed for the girls safety interfere and one is thrown off the roof.
After a tussle the monster is arrested and put on trial. Disclaimed by Dr. Frankenstein he is lured away by Ygor, and back in the castle they are attacked by villagers who destroy the castle, killing the monster.
In the forties, Universal remade most of the thrillers of the thirties using Lon Cheney Jr in the roles made famous by Boris Karloff.
Here, with the same sad eyes, and presumably with the same 48 pounds of make-up, he bears a strong resemblance to his predecessor.
This condensation from "The Ghost Of Frankenstein" flows well and contains several key scenes, and is recommended to followers of the genre. Bela Lugosi is featured in one of his last substantial roles.
