The Italian company of Fumeo manufactured a large range of film projectors over the years ranging from Super 8mm to 35mm cinema units.

In this article we take a look at the 16mm Professional range of machines. All information is from the September 1990 catalogue.

The hd2000/500W, was a transportable professional projector with horizontal Xenon bulb of 500 watts power. The sound system could output 30 watts RMS into 8ohms. With Treble and Bass controls, a presence filter which improves the sound in poor acoustic halls, and a film level control.
Also provided a connection to external Micro and pick-up, the signals could be controlled by a potentiometer and, if required mixed with the film sound.
The reel arms which were removable could hold 1500m/5000ft of film. The light output at 2200 lumens could project an image on a 7 -10m/21-30ft screen from a distance of 20m - 25m/60ft - 75ft. The sound quality i.e. frequency response was:

	To operate the Xenon lamp a special power unit is required. This supplies the high starting voltage required to strike the lamp. it also has a special cable to connect to the projector.
	This is the lamp house used on the projector. It uses a horizontal burning lamp of 500 Watts. The unit is a self contained unit comprising. Metallic reflector, blower, lamp starter, safety device.

Moving from the transportable projector to the pedestal models, these were designed to be fitted in a permanent projection booth.

All the models here can take 1800 Mt (6000ft) reels, this enables a complete feature to be mounted on one reel. In addition the power supply for the Xenon lamps are built-in to the pedestals on some models. All models are equipped for optical sound, this is the standard for 16mm films.

FUMEO HL2000/500W

Starting with the basic! model the HL2000/500W. Has a monitor speaker and uses the 500 Watt Xenon lamp

FUMEO HL3000/1000W

The next model the HL3000/1000W was fitted with the 1000W horizontal Xenon lamp, having a performance of more than 3000 lumens, well able to project an image up to 14 m (42ft) from 40m (120ft).

FUMEO HL6000/1600-2000W

This model takes up to 2000 Watt Xenon lamp enabling a light output of 6000 lumens. The reflector is specially treated this allows 15% more light and 35% decrease in the heat falling on the film. The power supply for the lamp is an external unit. A powerful cooling systems produces more than 640 M of air per hour.

FUMEO 9360-61 ELECTRONIC

This is the sophisticated of models HL6000, where all the operations are developed through a logic board with the purpose to eliminate operative mistakes.

The lamphouse common to all HL6000 models. With metallic reflector and a 1600 watt lamp.

FUMEO 9805 DOUBLE BAND

This model derives from the 9307 with modular electronics. The basic unit is the same as the 9307/OM, but with the addition of SEPMAG unit, the adoption of sync drive motor for single speeds of 25fps or 24fps. Also under the lamphouse is a frame assembly that can accept up to 4 extra magnetic preamps for sepmag soundtracks. All four reels can take 1800m of film.

FUMEO 9815P DOUBLE BAND This version of 16mm double band projector uses the basic design of the portable model 9315/OM. The model 9815 differs however, in that it has the addition of SEPMAG section at the rear, and smaller reels (600m) and are located on the top of the projector.

FUMEO 9814-16 DOUBLE BAND These double band projectors have the COMOPT section derived from the stationary projector 9359/40/OM with modular audio amplifier. The SEPMAG section is the one below, with the addition of a variable speed DC motor. With a range of speeds from 5 to 35fps. Fixed speeds of 18, 24, 25, 30 fps are also provided. Film reels can hold 1800m of optical sound film, while the magnetic side can hold 600m

 

FUMEO SEPMAG UNIT The SEPMAG unit is mechanically coupled to the projector through a shaft with knuckle joints, it is however possible to change synchronization between said unit and the projector by acting on the knob on the sepmag sprocket: each step corresponds to a picture frame. The movement can be advanced or delayed in respect to the film picture. The perforated magnetic tape is stabilized by means of two heavy flywheels (more than 1 Kg each) that are launched to their operating speed through an electromagnetic device.
